Labor

The proliferation of federal and state laws and regulations regarding the terms and conditions of employment requires attorneys with expertise in labor and employment law.  For over two decades, the attorneys of the Gibbs, Giden, Locher, Turner & Senet LLP Labor and Employment Department have provided this expertise to a wide range of private businesses, municipalities and institutions.

In order to promote a healthy workplace environment and avoid employment disputes, GGLTS emphasizes preventative counseling and education. We assist our clients in preparing employee handbooks, personnel policies, and employment procedures that foster positive employee relations. We assist our clients in ensuring compliance with rules and regulations promulgated by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Labor Commissioner, and the Federal Department of Labor. We also provide counseling and advice in response to union organizing campaigns and unfair labor practice charges.

When employment disputes arise, GGLTS provides exceptional and cost-effective representation to our clients. Our attorneys have extensive experience defending against claims of wrongful termination, retaliation, employment discrimination, and harassment. We represent employers not only in federal and state court, but also before governmental agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. In addition, we frequently prosecute and respond to appeals to state and federal appellate courts.

GGLTS assists employers in all aspects of traditional labor law. Our lawyers are actively involved in collective bargaining, labor arbitrations, and administrative hearings. We have defended employers against claims filed with the National Labor Relations Board, the California Labor Commissioner, the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the Department of Industrial Relations, the Employment Development Department, and the Federal Department of Labor. We advise employers with respect to union elections, strikes, secondary boycotts, prevailing wages and fair labor standards issues. We also have also been a preeminent advisor for over two decades to major construction employers and associations in their negotiations with trade unions.
